CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Are you an involved community leader, a neighborhood captain, an educator or someone wanting to "get back to basics" in the local food chain? If so, and you are unsure of where or how to start, join us as an experienced community gardener, teacher and writer, focusing on food gardening in the Carolinas, walks you through the steps to organize, establish and maintain a successful, sustainable community garden. Learn how a garden can foster communities by providing fresh produce, promoting physical activity, encouraging opportunities for friendships and cooperation and ultimately benefit the community at large.

They're Banking on You:  A Swine Evening

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - It's the most fun and creative charity event of the season!  A Swine Evening is a colorful gala Celebrity Piggy Bank party and auction.  Online and on-site, you'll have a chance to bid on about 95 celebrity-signed piggy banks and accompanying prizes.  There's also live entertainment, a dance floor, food, a full bar and both live and silent auctions.  Homeless children are banking on you!  Please join us.  You'll have a great time for a great cause.  Proceeds benefit A Child's Place, an organization working to erase the impact of homelessness on children and their education.

2nd Annual 'Hat off to Parks' luncheon

CHARLOTTE - Purchase your tickets now for Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation’s 2nd Annual “Hats Off to Parks” Luncheon on Friday, May 11, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. in Freedom Park.

The event is one of Charlotte’s largest garden parties and serves as a fundraiser for various park projects throughout the County. This year, the fundraiser will benefit the Clark’s Creek Nature Preserve Amenities Fund.

Clark’s Creek nature preserve was dedicated as a County nature preserve in 2008. It is a Natural Heritage Site, meaning it contains exceptional natural resources, habitats, and wildlife. Numerous rare species, including red headed woodpeckers, grasshopper sparrows, and eastern meadowlarks can be found on the property.

Every two years, wine and food enthusiasts gather to share their passion for tasting exceptional vintages and trying Charlotte’s fine cuisine.

One of the Southeast's largest wine events, the Charlotte Wine & Food Weekend begins Thursday, April 18th, and runs through Sunday, April 22nd.

Food Lion AutoFair kicks off April 19th

CONCORD, NC (WBTV) - The world's largest automotive extravaganza returns to Charlotte Motor Speedway, promising something for everyone!

Anyone with an interest in automotive history won’t want to miss the display honoring the oldest American car manufacturer, Buick, which will include a 1905 Model C that is believed to be one of the oldest Buicks still in existence today. In conjunction with the display, NASCAR great Bobby Allison, who twice drove a Buick to victory in the Daytona 500, will be on hand for an autograph session from 2 to 3pm on Saturday, April 21st.

Those with an interest in rare cars should be sure to check out Tom Cotter’s 1952 Cunningham C-3 that will take center stage in the Barn Finds display.
